You can switch to the layout editing mode either automatically when creating a new layout (see Creating and deleting layouts), or manually using the Edit layout/map item of the context menu of the layouts panel. The context menu is opened when you click the 
button.

To use the layout editing mode, you must have the required permissions (see Configuring user permissions). |
In the layout editing mode, the space is divided by a grid into cells of the surveillance windows (1).
On the edge of the layout there are fragments of cells (2), which are parts of the ordinary empty cells and allow adding new cells to the layout (see Adding new cells to a layout).
